Aït Benhaddou

A fortified earthen ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and the setting for many films.

At the end of the Ounila valley, the ksar of Aït Benhaddou is an 18th-century fortified village where a few families still live. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, it has been fully restored using traditional Berber building methods.

Its setting has been used for several international films, including Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. You visit with a local guide, through the lanes of the old village, up to the panorama from the top of the ksar.
