High Atlas

The great mountain range between Marrakech and the South, crossed by the Tizi n’Tichka pass.

Between the Haouz plain and the South, the High Atlas is crossed by the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at an altitude of 2,260 m. Often snow-capped, its peaks tower over Berber villages clinging to the mountainside, where farming and herding set the rhythm of life. On the southern slopes, Télouet is home to the pasha’s kasbah, a blend of Berber and Arab-Andalusian art.

Further west, the Tizi n’Test pass links Taroudant to Marrakech through argan trees and red earth, passing the Tinmel mosque, dating from 1156 and open to non-Muslims. From Marrakech, the Ourika valley is the other gateway to the range.
