Chegaga Desert

Departure city · Drâa-Tafilalet
The gateway to the desert, a city of kasbahs and cinema, and the home of our agency.
In Berber (Amazigh), the name Ouarzazate combines “ouar”, without, and “zazate”, noise: the city without noise, calm and serene. Spread across a vast desert plateau on the threshold of the Great South, it enjoys around 350 days of sunshine a year. A former stop for caravans coming from the Sahel and the Sahara, it has kept the pasha’s kasbahs, including the Kasbah Taourirt in the heart of the old town and the Kasbah of Tifoultoute.
Famous for its film studios, the “Hollywood of Africa” has hosted the filming of Lawrence of Arabia, Babel and Game of Thrones, and has its own Cinema Museum. It is also the starting point for our day trips to Skoura, the Drâa valley, Aït Benhaddou and the Fint oasis.
