Taroudant and Taliouine

The “little Marrakech” and its ramparts, then the saffron valley.

Nicknamed the “little Marrakech”, Taroudant is encircled by several kilometres of ramparts that once protected its medina. A former caravan centre famed for its sugar, cotton and rice, it is best discovered through its souk and, if you wish, by horse-drawn carriage along the ramparts. To the south, the Tiout palm grove invites you to walk among palm and argan trees.

Further east, Taliouine is the saffron capital. A local cooperative shares the secrets of this “red gold” and teaches you to tell real saffron from fake; in October, at harvest time, you can join the farmers in the fields.
