Drâa valley

Morocco’s largest palm grove: around one million date palms, from Agdz to M’Hamid.

From Agdz to M’Hamid, the Drâa river waters Morocco’s largest palm grove, around one million date palms that sustain thousands of families. The date harvest takes place every October. Along this green ribbon you pass a string of ksour, the 18th-century Kasbah of Tamnougalt near Agdz and the Kasbah of the Ouled Othmane.

An old caravan stop, Zagora is the gateway to the desert. In Tamegroute, the Naciria zaouia houses a library of ancient manuscripts, and potters still produce a green ceramic renowned throughout Morocco. At the end of the valley, M’Hamid opens the tracks to Erg Chegaga.
